Finding and Holding Onto Good Help in Your Cleaning Business

Hiring EmployeesI get asked a lot of questions about hiring and keeping good workers. Unfortunately, we all run into this issue today.  The key to good help is defining who your BEST employee would be and then targeting those people where they are found.

Finding Good Help

Can you work with part-time workers or do you need workers full-time?  Sometimes you can find part-time people who will be able to split a full-time position.  Having the ability to be flexible with work hours is another issue; many people willing to work cleaning jobs also want flexibility.

The key to hiring good help is to always perform a thorough interview and check their references.

Nobody can tell you where to find the people who would be perfect for your business because it all depends on the “personality” of the business owner/manager and the fact that every cleaning business is different.  Not only do you need workers that can follow your procedures but, you need workers your clients will be happy with.  Consider hiring on a temporary basis for 1-2 weeks so you have the ability to let them go if they don’t work out.

Holding Onto Good Help

When you find good help, the key to keeping them is providing enough jobs to fill their paychecks; working for clients they can tolerate; and offering them something your competition doesn’t.  I found various perks and bonuses a good way to keep my employees.
